Harris' victory at Rockingham capped off a stellar road racing weekend for BDI Racing. Before resuming a healthy oval-track schedule later in January, the BDI Racing Legends and Bandolero drivers kicked off a three-week string of road course events as part of the 2007-2008 Winter Heat Series at Lowe's Motor Speedway on Saturday, January 5th. Just like he did at Rockingham, Harris led the way for the BDI Racing team at Lowe's with a hard-fought fifth-place finish, his second-straight top-five in the Series overall. Meghan Dillner and Gregory Lang also scored top-10 finishes in the Bandolero Young Guns feature at Lowe's Saturday, finishing eighth and 10th respectively. Bruce Silver fought hard for a strong 14th -place finish in the Legends Masters division event, as well.
Then on Sunday, Silver and Lang, along with Harris, helped resurrect Rockingham Speedway in grand fashion. In addition to Harris' victory, Silver brought home a top-five from Rockingham in the Legends Masters event, while Lang battled for a solid sixth-place finish in his Bandolero Young Gun feature.
But while many Legends drivers tried, nobody was going to keep Harris' road racing experience and motivation of being the first Rockingham winner since 2004 out of victory lane Sunday.
There were a couple of times I could have made moves on people and backed out of it, added Harris. There were a couple of times I probably could have stayed on track but I opted to go through the grass since we weren't racing for points at Rockingham. I just figured I would rather not wreck it and just wait a corner and overtake them then. That's where my road racing experience really helped me out in winning the race.
The BDI Racing team's Legends and Bandolero competitors will next see action at Lanier National Speedway in Braselton, GA, for the Ice Cold Shriner Bowl event on Saturday, January 12th.
