Stroupe Boys Propel BDI Racing to Winternationals Team Title
Zach Sweeps New Smyrna & Nick Takes One at Orlando to Score 3-out-of-4 in Florida

If you wanted to win a Pro Challenge race during this season's Winternationals Series in Florida , it sure helped to have two things – a racecar prepared by BDI Racing and the last name of Stroupe.

Brothers Nick and Zach Stroupe shared the driving duties of the BDI Racing #51 Pro Challenge machine during Florida Speedweeks at Orlando Speedworld and New Smyrna Speedway and ended up winning three of the four races in the series. 12-year-old Nick won at Orlando to start out the week; only and ignition box problem would keep him out of victory lane on the second evening. 15-year-old brother Zach took over the driving chores at New Smyrna during the next two nights and swept both events there.

Since neither driver competed in the full four-race series, they were not in contention for the driver championship at the Winternationals. Yet it is safe to say that together the brothers brought the BDI team the team title for the 4-race series.

“I won one race, my brother won two races and if it wasn't for an ignition problem, we would've swept the whole weekend,” said Nick Stroupe, who also swept both poles and the 3/8 of a mile racetrack. “We could've swept Speedweeks; that would've been pretty cool, even winning three out

of four, that's pretty cool.”

Zach Stroupe and BDI Racing continued its dominance at New Smyrna Speedway. In 2007, Zach won both Pro Challenge races at lightning fast half-mile, so he is now batting 1.000 when it comes to racing at that historic track during Speedweeks.

“We came down here knowing we wanted to defend our two wins here last year and that's what we did,” said Zach Stroupe. “We've got four starts here now – with four wins and three poles, that's pretty good. My brother did great at Orlando , winning the first night and dominating the second night before the ignition box went bad. It was a great weekend for everyone.”

Having such a strong record at New Smyrna is something that is very special to Bob Dillner. The SPEED TV personality and founder of the short track racing website Speed51.com has been attending Speedweeks races at the track for decades and watching some of his own heroes wheel Modified and Super Late Model cars there during that time. Dillner never dreamed that he would cheer his own racecar on to victory lane there.

“To have Zach win one race at New Smyrna was special, but to have him sweep four races there over the past two years is really an honor,” said Dillner. “That is a track that is very near and dear to my heart.”

Having two brothers wheel one racecar worked especially well for the BDI Racing team, which was supported at the Winternationals by Ocean Properties Vacation Rentals, Pub 44 of New Smyrna Beach and Domino's Pizza of Orlando and New Smyrna Beach.

“Both Nick and Zach have done an unbelievable job,” said Dillner. “We are really proud of them. They are both super talented and they showcased that in front of some tough competition. Our entire team worked as hard as I've ever seen the work to be successful here. To be able to come to Speedweeks, where the entire racing world is focused right now, and win three races is amazing.”

Even when one of the Stroupe's was racing, the other one was right there behind the scenes helping out his brother.

“My brother's good at New Smyrna,” said Nick Stroupe. “He showed that last year. I think I'm pretty good at Orlando . So we just combined talents and everything turned out pretty good. Zach helped me a ton at Orlando . He told me the line, where to let off and everything. Dustin (Archer, crew chief), my dad and everyone on the BDI Racing crew helped me out a ton all weekend long.”

“It's pretty cool that we were able to both win in the same car,” said Zach Stroupe, who also garned a pole award at New Smyrna. “Dustin and the guys put a lot of work into them and it showed. Nick is doing a great job. I had a great time being on the radio with him, but he did everything behind the wheel on his own.”

And of course, there is a little bit of sibling rivalry in the Stroupe family about just who is the better racecar driver. After the Winternationals this year though, the contest ended in a draw, at least according to the younger of the Stroupe brothers.

“I won a 50-lapper. He won two 25-lappers. So I guess technically we're tied,” said Nick with a smile.
