Pete Orr Memorial Victory on Michael Pope's Mind During Speedweeks
Ocean Properties and Pub 44 Renew Partnership With BDI Racing For New Smyrna Speedway in '09

Not too many race teams can say that they have won all four races they have ever entered at one track, especially if that one track is as tough as Florida's New Smyrna Speedway. But, Chevrolet short track development team BDI Racing has swept the two Pro Challenge Series events at the speedy half-mile in both 2007 and 2008, making them an impressive four-for-four.

This year Ocean Properties and Gilly's Pub 44 are back for the third straight year, but the task of continuing the undefeated streak will be far tougher for the team as it sets its sights on victory in the tough Super Late Model class during the World Series of Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna Speedway. Driver Michael Pope, fresh off his impressive fifth-place finish in his first start behind the wheel of the BDI #51 Chevy Impala SS last month, will make his first New Smyrna appearance with one goal on his mind – to win the Pete Orr Memorial 100 at New Smyrna on Saturday, February 14 th in the team's #51 Hamke chassis racecar.

“I'm pumped. I cannot wait to get down to Florida to hopefully continue the win streak for the BDI Racing team,” said the 19-year-old Pope. “I've never been a part of Speedweeks before, but I've heard about it all my life. My parents have been to it before, but I always got left at home because I had to go to school. This year, there's no school. I get to go down there and drive the BDI Racing #51 Chevrolet. I couldn't be happier.”

Pope began his tenure with BDI Racing by qualifying third for the CRA Super Series-sanctioned SpeedFest 2009 event on January 25 th at Georgia's Lanier National Speedway. Pope remained inside the top-10 throughout the 200-lap event and came on strong with a solid fifth-place finish. The SpeedFest success was at a track he had been to many times before in his Late Model and Legends Car career, but Pope is aware that he will have his work cut out for him at the trick New Smyrna track and against some tough SLM warriors.

“The whole BDI crew and I have talked about it; everyone's told me it's a bad-fast racetrack. That doesn't bother me one bit. I've always been good at high-speed tracks, which it sounds like New Smyrna is. We'll go down there, get a good night's rest in our Ocean Properties condo right on the beach in New Smyrna and go get the car dialed in on Thursday. Hopefully we'll have a rocketship so we can go eat a bunch of wings and burgers at Pub 44 down the road from the track and then come back on Saturday and go for the win in the Pete Orr Memorial 100.”

The World Series action at New Smyrna boasts nine nights of short track battles waged by some of the best short trackers in the country. While checking in on the action all week long, the team will make sure every nut and bolt is sound and the car is pristinely prepared to accomplish their goal of winning the longest race of Smyrna Speedweeks.

“I think we'll have a good shot. I'll do my part as a driver and I know the crew will go out and give me the best possible car. There's going to be a lot of tough competition out there on Saturday night. There's a lot of Florida regulars that run at New Smyrna a bunch during the season that will be tough, plus guys from Georgia, the Carolinas and even New England all down there trying to win that race. We'll just go out there and have a good time while we're out in Florida and hopefully celebrate a win come Saturday night.”

BDI Racing is proud to continue longstanding partnerships with several New Smyrna area businesses for this year's edition of the World Series of Stock Car Auto Racing, including Ocean Properties and Gilly's Pub 44. Ocean Properties is the leading vacation rental business in the Daytona and New Smyrna Beach areas, catering to not only racers and race fans during February Speedweeks, but vacationers throughout the year. Pub 44, located just a few miles down State Road 44 from the track, is the popular post-race hangout for locals and competitors. Both Ocean Properties and Gilly's Pub 44 will adorn the BDI Racing #51 Chevy Impala SS during this year's World Series events.

Veteran crew chief Jerry Babb, who has formed a partnership between his own Nu-Style Motorventures and BDI Racing, will lead the team, which consists of car chief and lead engineer Dustin Archer and co-car chief Jason Ricker.
