“I am very proud of the fact that BDI Racing will be working with such a great cause,” said Dillner, who has Easter weekend off from the NASCAR ranks to support the “Rally Against Cancer” at Hickory on April 11th. “My father is battling cancer right now, and it really opened my eyes to this terrible disease that affects so many families all over the world. Michael (Pope) and I are looking forward to spreading the word and raising money for cancer research. I hope we can work with the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute more in the future. Someday we will win the ‘Rally Against Cancer' and it will be due to programs like these.”
"I applaud the BDI Racing team and its fans for their efforts in our Rally Against Cancer program," said Jimmy Fund Chairman and former Red Sox second baseman Mike Andrews. "Their enthusiasm and generosity is bringing us closer to the ultimate finish line--a world without cancer."
BDI Racing's principals, owner Bob Dillner and BDI Director of Racing Operations Matt Kentfield, grew up in the Northeast and are still passionate Boston Red Sox fans even now that they are located in the heart of stock car auto racing country in North Carolina. Their passion for the game and the Red Sox, along with an even deeper passion for helping their community and those stricken with cancer, has led them to support the Jimmy Fund‘s Rally Against Cancer.
“Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester's story is one of incredible courage and is one that goes far beyond the foul lines on the ballfield,” said Kentfield. “His remarkable comeback from cancer just a few years ago to become one of the most dominant pitchers in all of baseball is something that transcends not just that sport, but all sports in general. We are proud to support Jon and the Jimmy Fund to raise awareness and the money necessary to see kids and adults alike be able to accomplish as much as Jon has, whether it's on the baseball field or anything else they have planned for their lives.
“Cancer has affected my family and just about every other family, so hopefully we can do our part to help in the research and treatment of the terrible disease so that this and future generations can enjoy Red Sox baseball and stock car racing cancer-free.”
To join in BDI Racing's efforts to shut out cancer with the Jimmy Fund, sign up for the team and make a donation towards the team's goal by visiting www.rallyagainstcancer.org/2009/bdiracing. With a $5 minimum donation, fans are encouraged to wear Red Sox team apparel to work, school, and their college/university on April 6th, the team's home opener at Fenway Park in Boston. BDI Racing also encourages its fans to wear Red Sox gear to Concord Speedway for their season-opener on March 28th and to Hickory Motor Speedway on April 11th while cheering on the BDI Racing #51 Chevrolet Pro Late Model.
The Jimmy Fund is an official charity of the Boston Red Sox. For the past 56 years, Red Sox players and fans have supported the Jimmy Fund through gifts of time, money, and goodwill. Since its founding in 1947, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute has been committed to providing cancer patients with the best treatment available today, while developing tomorrow's cures through cutting-edge research. The Jimmy Fund supports this fight against cancer in children and adults at Dana-Farber, helping to raise the chance of survival for cancer patients around the world.
