On-Track Success Opening Doors for Josh Williams
15-Year-Old BDI Racing Development Driver's Florida Domination Recognized by Humpy Wheeler

Every track has one driver that most competitors, crew members and fans point to as the favorite for victory on any given race night.  At Charlotte County Motorsports Park in Florida, Josh Williams is that driver in not one, but two divisions on most occasions at the 3/8-mile facility.  Williams has been the dominant driver in the Legends Car division at the Punta Gorda track and has recently become the most feared driver in the track's Fastruck division, as well.

But Williams' success is not limited to just his home track, however, as he's also been a threat in the competitive Summer Shootout Legends Car series at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina.  The on-track success was noted by NASCAR on SPEED broadcaster Bob Dillner, who tabbed Williams for his short track development program in early 2008.

All of Williams' success over the years was not only highly regarded by Dillner, but also by famed motorsports promoter and personality H.A. “Humpy” Wheeler, who along with the Wheeler Company, recently named Williams as one of the 10 finalists in the “Humpy's Heroes” program.  As a finalist for “Humpy's Heroes,” Williams will be put to the test on the track, as well given consultation and guidance on the life of a NASCAR driver outside the car.

Then, at the end of the program, one finalist will be given a chance to test with a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team – an opportunity that Williams hopes is his in the end.

“I'm definitely honored to be chosen as a finalist and given this opportunity,” said Williams.  “Being the youngest driver out of all of them, I'm even more excited for this opportunity.

“They're going to have us go testing in some different cars at different tracks.  But mainly, they're going to be giving us a baseline on what it's like to be a NASCAR driver.  We'll be testing and keeping a busy schedule and they'll be showing us how NASCAR drivers act, dress, talk to the media and sell themselves.  I'm not the shyest person in the world, so this is something that I'm ready to do and excited about the chance.”

Williams may be the youngest finalist of the bunch, but after weekends like his final racing weekend of April, it is no wonder why the 15-year-old was considered for the “Humpy's Heroes” program.  For the third time in 2009, Williams swept both the Legends Car and the Fastruck division features at Charlotte County, making him the most dominant driver at the track this year.

“We had a pretty good weekend.  It's a pretty cool feeling to be able to win both races back-to-back like that.  We got into the Legends Car and won, then got out and hopped right into the Truck and won there too.  That was the third time we've done that this year, which is really special.

“They're all after me in both the Legends and the Truck series.  We just have to stay on top of our game and keep the car and the truck in one piece and we can maybe get a couple more wins this year.”

Williams' upcoming 2009 schedule includes more Legends Car and Fastruck features at Charlotte County, as well as continued feature starts in the Carolinas and beyond with his Legends ride.  Plans also have Williams scheduled for Late Model and ARCA RE/MAX Series tests and potential starts later in the season.
