The Summer Shootout Series at Lowe's Motor Speedway (NC) is notorious for having some of the toughest competition in all of short track racing, even though being still a developmental series for up-and-coming racers. The Legends Car ranks are tough no matter where the race may take place, but the Summer Shootout at Lowe's is arguably the most competitive, action-packed form of racing out there.

Because of the closeness of competition, winning is a phenomenal feat to accomplish during the 10-week series. Just finishing well is an accomplishment in its own right, as there is danger beyond every turn at the quarter-mile track at LMS.

That's why, even tough Kenzie Ruston and Kyle Plott are tough customers in their own right, top-10 finishes on nights when things could've been far worse are momentum-building results. Tuesday, June 23rd 's Summer Shootout round number-three left both BDI Racing drivers wishing for better, but still satisfied with their top-10 runs.

“I feel like I could've done better than sixth, but on a restart, I started third and I got checked up by the guy in front of me and the guy behind me got into me, so I got freight-trained from there,” said

Ruston, whose sixth-place finish in the Legends Semi-Pro feature Tuesday night kept her in the division's championship hunt. “I started third and I went back to about 12 th and was still able to get back up to sixth, so it's not too bad I guess.”

Ruston's BDI Racing teammate Kyle Plott came home an impressive ninth in the Legends Young Lions feature, which saw the young Georgia native come from the back of the field into the top-10 quickly despite many caution flags slowing his progress.

“The car was a little bit loose at first, and as we went on it got better and better,” said Plott. “I just worked harder as a driver and tried to avoid all the wrecks.  I would like to thank God for keeping me safe through the race.  I also want to thank Dustin Archer and my dad for helping me with the car and all the guys that helped me.

“The competition is definitely getting faster.  The key here is track position.  We just didn't get any good track position tonight and we will work on it in the following weeks to come.”

Both Ruston and Plott will be back behind the wheel of their Legends Cars when the Summer Shootout Series continues on Tuesday, June 30 th .
