With Noses to the Grindstone, Pope and Dillner Score Top-10's at Hickory
Hard Work Pays Off With Solid Results for the BDI Team

Michael Pope shares a laugh with the BDI crew before the Independence 150 at Hickory.

Michael Pope and Meghan Dillner, BDI Racing's two house drivers, along with their crew, followed a simple philosophy in Sunday's PASS South Super Late Model and PASS Truck races. They lived by the adage of, “If at first you don't succeed, then try and try again.”

Pope's #51 BDI Racing Chevrolet was a handful during the early part of the race, but the driver gave the team good feedback and they worked through the race to make adjustments. By the end of the race, they were all rewarded with a solid 10th-place finish against a strong field of competitors who hailed from Maine to Florida to compete in the race.

“We struggled throughout the race with an ill-handling race car,” said Pope. “It was tight through the center of the corner all day long. I think [when we get back to the shop], that we will reevaluate some of the front end [geometry] on the car. We started off and the car was just shoving up the front tires up the race track and we came in and made some adjustments. The first couple of changes helped for five laps then it would start getting tight in the center and loose off. We tried to keep coming in and playing with it. We finally got decent at the end of the race so I'm happy with it.”

Pope is also happy with the way that his team worked together to make the most of a challenging

day, and he's thankful for his opportunity with BDI Racing as well.

“I'm happy we got a top-10 finish. We are kind of starting over and we needed to get a top-10, then a top five and then go for a win - So I'm happy with the BDI crew and everything. I really need to thank Bob Dillner and his family for everything and also thank the people who help get us to the track each race - Racing Electronics and MAC Tools and Chevrolet.”

Pope's next event comes on Tuesday, July 14 th in a PASS North event at Lee USA Speedway in New Hampshire.

Meghan Dillner, in just her second start in the PASS Truck division at Hickory Motor Speedway, found the hill towards a solid result tough to climb, just like her teammate Michael Pope did in the SLM. Dillner and the BDI team fought through an ill-handling truck throughout the weekend, but Dillner was able to wrestle the #18 machine to a solid sixth-place finish after starting sixth, as well.

"We went to the track knowing that this was going to be a good learning experience so that i can take the next step up to a Late Model without being super confused," said Dillner. "But as a driver, I set my hopes high and I wanted to get a really good finish. The truck really wasn't responding to the changes that we made to it to get it to thandle better, so I don't feel like I really lived up to my expectations, but I still learned a lot out there.

"All weekend we had to fight the truck and we struggled to get the truck exactly where I wanted to be. We tried a bunch of stuff and it still wasn't perfect. I had to race it the way the truck would let me race it and still wasn't perfect, but the learning experience was definitely worth it.

Dillner's next race is to be announced soon.
